Why do you need a Podiatrist?

Your feet contain the most complex bone structure in your entire body. In fact over a quarter of the bones in your body are located in your feet. In addition there are various muscles, joints and ligaments. This makes feet vulnerable to injury and diseases that can affect the entire body.

Podiatrists fully understand the structure and movement of the foot and lower limbs. They are able to diagnose foot conditions, identify systemic overall health conditions that present with foot or lower limb symptoms – and recommend appropriate treatment plans.

Did you know that podiatrists don't just examine your feet? They perform a biomechanics assessment to see how the way you walk impacts other parts of your body, such as your lower back and hips.

When should you see a Podiatrist?

If you're experiencing any of the below, it may be a good idea to book an appointment with a podiatrist for further investigation.

  • Pain in your feet
  • Ingrown nails
  • Discoloured nails or discoloured skin on your feet
  • Corn or warts on your feet
  • Skin rashes or redness in your feet or legs
  • Foot odour
  • Foot injury
  • Swelling of your feet or difficulty fitting in your regular shoes

Additionally if you're experiencing border health problems such as diabetes or arthritis or recurrent tripping or falling.

It is a common misconception that painful feet are a normal side effect from everyday activities. If in doubt it's best to seek professional advice.
